{"id":783,"date":"2025-03-02T10:33:20","date_gmt":"2025-03-02T10:33:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/davidlongman.net\/blog\/?page_id=783"},"modified":"2025-03-03T15:10:03","modified_gmt":"2025-03-03T15:10:03","slug":"2030-education-technology-to-the-future","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/davidlongman.net\/blog\/2030-education-technology-to-the-future\/","title":{"rendered":"2030: Education Technology: to the future?"},"content":{"rendered":"<style>div {font-size: 1.04em;}<\/style>\n<p>David Longman, January 2020, for MirandaNet<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The future is already here \u2014 it&#8217;s just not very evenly distributed.\u201d (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikiquote.org\/wiki\/William_Gibson\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Attributed to William Gibson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">)<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 15px; font-size: 80%; background-color: rgba(0, 0, 255, 0.082); text-align: center;\">[<strong>Update March 2025:<\/strong> I have republished this MirandaLink material which I created in 2020 in order to return to a discussion with TPEA\/ITTE colleagues about the future direction of EdTech.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The turn of a decade is a convenient calendar moment in which to consider what is to come, to look ahead to consider how educational technology (edtech) might develop during the coming decade.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are some possible questions for discussion:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How will edtech develop during the coming 10-15 years?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How will the provision and &#8216;delivery&#8217; of education change (if at all)?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perhaps, most importantly, how can we influence the direction of edtech as the future unfolds?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To frame our thinking a little below I link to three recent and interesting papers about possible futures of edtech.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are different futures to consider, each is possible, some are already emerging. (These articles are what Neil Selwyn and his colleagues describe as &#8220;<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">social science fiction<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">T<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">wo articles (1 &amp; 3) are open access. Article 2 has been contributed by the author(s).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aiming to lighten the reading load a bit, I have added three synopses of the articles. I hope they are reasonably accurate summaries of the main content while offering a lighter\/quicker read and a convenient method for commment on the major ideas.
